What you can expect from a Motion + Repose studio session;

  • A personalised approach

    Your initial 1 : 1 Introductory Sessions are dedicated to assessing your needs and creating a personalised plan to fit your unique outcomes, you will learn ‘your order’ of exercises from the system.

    You can then continue with 1 : 1’s or move into our Open Studio sessions, where you’ll develop your understanding and skill with Pilates and all the studio equipment.

    With Miriam’s extensive skills and support, you’ll feel amazing as you build a body that supports you in your day-to-day life and any specific health or sports outcomes you have.

    Motion and Repose is for you if you’re seeking a warm and inviting space with a great and supportive community of people, all committed to moving and learning the System of Contrology - Pilates.

    You will feel included and able to attend sessions without judgement or critique on your physcial abilities, which naturally enhances our psychological and emotional wellbeing.

    It’s a space for people who want to learn and enjoy a complete approach to their body, wellbeing and health.

  • Support and commitment

    Everyone has different needs and particulars with exercise, Miriam will work closely with you to help identify and overcome any limitations, this may include liasing with other health professionals.

    Motion and Repose is not your average Pilates studio, we focus on quality, commitment and ‘you’. The studio is equipped with Classical Pilates equipment and follows the ‘Contrology’ pilates system. We are not your run of the mill group reformer studio, we specialise in Pilates for people who want to feel connected and want a personal and skilled approach.

    The Open Studio format encourages independence with Pilates. As you naturally progress through the system, your workout will adapt as your body changes and your Pilates develops.

    Your Body, Your Workout. Your Pilates.

    It is for everyone, no matter your age or experience. Exercises are delivered via ‘your order’ and progressed through the ‘Contrology’ system; building your confidence and skill under the supervision of Miriam, as a 3rd Generation Contrology teacher.

  • The Contrology Method

    Open Studio teaches the original method of Pilates, called ‘Contrology’, as designed by Joseph Pilates, and used in his New York studio in the 1960s. Whether you’re new to exercise, a Pilates enthusiast, a sports person or under the supervision and care of an Allied Health Professional, it will allow you to feel strong, flexible, mobile and confident in your body.

    With regular commitment to Contrology, Open Studio will help you build skill, strength, mastery and life long joy in moving the body that you’re in.

    Contrology is a multi-layered practice that works with you and your personal needs and daily adjustments. In-studio it can move across different apparatus to support you as you develop and enjoy new challenges. Online we continue to develop the principles and your ability to move through the system with whatever props you have available.

    There’s no fixed end point or perfect way of moving, rather the system and equipment keep you engaged as you move.

What people are saying

“Miriam is a wonderful instructor who saw exactly what my body needed and delivered a session after which I felt I could dance all the way home. Safe, challenging, funny, exploratory and personal. Thank you!.

— Annalisa

“I highly recommend Motion and Repose as a lovely way to invest in your own health and wellbeing. Perfect for anyone seeking a thorough, thoughtful and tailored workout. I recently attended the Coburg studio for my first ever 1:1 session. Miriam’s engaging manner made it fun, and her insightful adjustments encouraged me to get the most from the time - I felt wonderful as I left the studio, noticed the results for days afterwards, and now have clear goals (and actions!) to progress and build strength.”

— Sally

“I saw Miriam for some 1:1 private sessions after a long hiatus from excercise. Miriam has an ability to read where your body is at, why it's where it's at and prescribe the exact exercise that your body needs to support itself on a physical and energetic level. Miriam is super supportive, non judgemental and understands the body in a way that most practitioners simply cannot.”

— Brooke

“Miriam is such a wonder. She’s always able to sense where my body is at and adapt the perfect workout to suit. Attending her classes regularly is making a huge difference to my body and overall wellbeing. Thanks Miriam!”

FAQs and Standards

Privacy

I, Miriam Jones, as operator of Motion and Repose, will not ever pass on your details to any third parties and have all personal details securely stored.

Studio Culture

I believe that building a community of people who can have a laugh, connect, exercise together and know that sometimes not feeling fabulous prior to a session, is a reality. As such I hold the standard of having an inclusive, respectful and honest environment. That includes sometimes not getting stuck on whether you’re making mistakes. You are always welcome in sessions, even when you’ve had a poorly day. The art of the Contrology System is accepting that somethings will be hard and uncomfortable and that making mistakes is how we facilitate change. I don’t expect perfection or want you to exercise for my approval. Rather, I am with you as your coach, supporter, mentor, and will laugh with you at times when needed.

Community

Motion and Repose is a warm and personalised studio that has a brilliant and diverse community, all aligned to feeling fabulous and exploring the Contrology System.

Do you still offering Mentoring for teachers?

Yes, I do! The original 6 Month Mentoring Program is currently being overhauled and I am offering mentoring to teachers on a 1 : 1 basis. Please reach out if you’d like to talk further about this.

What happens if you’re away or sick? - Open Studio only

Instructor absences;
I travel interstate for work; teacher trainings and retreats a few times a year. Therefore, some sessions or a day of work may need to be cancelled.

There may also be times where I need to cancel as I am sick and require time off from running sessions. If you miss a workout because I’m off sick. I’m more than happy for you to make it up another time in one of the other Open Studio sessions.

I will always do my best to keep disruptions to a minimum, but I believe that it’s fair workplace practice that people should be allowed to take sick leave when necessary.

You will be notified by group email on days that I require off, and via text message as appropriate.

Client absences;
Due to illness, public holiday closures, or family issues, etc, you may unfortunately miss your regular Open Studio sessions, I’m more than happy for you to make up these sessions, at an alternate time during that current week. The 18 hour cancellation policy stands for all appointment types. For your convenience, cancellation links are within your booking confirmation. Please remember that all sessions are available online and in-studio to help you maintain your commitment to your wellbeing.

You’re kindly reminded that missed sessions will not roll over into the next week.. These practices are fair and in accordance with the kinds of supportive policies in place in Australian workplaces and in legislation supporting workers.
